Western Undergraduate Exchange

Out-of-state students can save thousands of dollars on tuition every year with the WUE program. Are you eligible?western, undergraduate, exchange, WUE, Eastern, university, out-of-state, tuition, savings, cost

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) helps undergraduate students from 15 participating western states and territories attend Eastern with a lower cost of tuition. This academic year, the tuition savings for WUE recipients is $9,721. That's a huge benefit, and it's one you can take advantage of.

2014-2015 Tuition & Fees
Out-of-state student $21,066
Out-of-state student with WUE $11,345
WUE Savings $9,721

Am I eligible for WUE?

There are really only a few requirements.

  • Did you submit your admissions application to EWU?
  • Are you a resident of a WUE state?
  • Are you seeking your first bachelor's degree?

If you can answer "yes" to these questions, you're eligible.

What are the WUE states and territories?

Alaska Nevada
Arizona New Mexico
California North Dakota
Colorado Oregon
Hawaii South Dakota
Idaho Utah
Montana Wyoming
CNMI

How is WUE different at EWU?

Everyone says, "Applying to and affording college should be simple." And we agree.

At EWU, you can study in every program at WUE rates. Only the last two years of the nursing program are ineligible for WUE.

Even simpler, EWU doesn't have complicated GPA, test score, or WUE rules. If you're admissible, and if you're WUE elligible, you'll receive WUE, and you'll receive the full WUE award possible. So you can put away your calculator. You'll get a full WUE award at EWU.

How do I apply?

The good news: there is no separate WUE application. All you have to do is submit a completed EWU application for admission. Apply early!

Visit ewu.edu/apply to complete your application for admission today.

When will I receive my WUE award?

Only admitted students receive WUE award letters, which means your application must be complete before we can send you a letter.

WUE award letters to admitted students will be sent in early to mid February.

What happens after I receive a WUE award?

First, you'll receive notice that you are being offered a WUE award to study at EWU.

This isn't junk mail! It's critical that you sign and return an agreement stating you accept the WUE award and agree to follow its conditions, one of which is a commitment to live on campus your first year at EWU if you're a freshman. Be sure to contact us with your questions about campus living and WUE requirements.

How long does WUE last?

When you receive WUE at Eastern, it lasts until you graduate. Just make sure you're in good academic standing (a.k.a. getting good grades) and making satisfactory progress toward your degree (a.k.a. taking the classes you need in order to graduate).

Can I use WUE for Summer Session classes?

No, but you can use WUE for any number of credits during the regular academic year. Twelve or 20, it's up to you.

Is there small print?

Yep, and here it is.

Students who register as freshmen and receive WUE must live on campus their first year. WUE awards for the 2013-2014 academic year have already been awarded, and no new awards are available for winter and spring 2014. WUE award recipients must maintain legal residence in a WUE state other than Washington. WUE recipients cannot use the time of their enrollment toward fulfilling Washington in-state residency requirements for tuition purposes. All Eastern academic programs are open to WUE students on a space-available basis. Note: Eastern's WUE award does not apply to students admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the Intercollegiate Nursing Alliance. All BSN students must apply for and receive aid through Washington State University. Requirements for the WUE program are subject to change without notice.
