EWU Enrollment Soars

Published: October 11, 2012

CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University's fall enrollment has set a record for the fourth consecutive year, easily surpassing last year's mark by more than 450 students.

The overall headcount for the fall 2012 quarter, which includes all students who take classes at every level at Eastern, is 12,587. In 2011, EWU's overall headcount totaled 12,130.

"Many more students are choosing Eastern because of its quality programs and lower tuition when compared to other public institutions in the state of Washington," said EWU President Rodolfo Arévalo. "The strong enrollment number is also the result of the university's continued focus on retention and student success."

President Arévalo noted student success is the top priority in Eastern's new strategic plan, and increased access to academic support services is one example of how retention efforts are helping students.

In addition to the record student body, first-time freshman enrollment at EWU is also larger with 1,572 on campus this fall. This represents the second largest freshman class in school history (Eastern had 1,600 freshman in 2005).
