Published: October 12, 2017

CHENEY, Washington - The Eastern Washington University Board of Trustees (BOT) has unanimously elected Uriel Iñiguez to serve as board chair for the 2017-18 academic year. Appointed to the board January 1, 2014, Iñiguez succeeds Judge James Murphy as chair.

Iñiguez holds a BA in Business Administration with a focus on Human Resources from Eastern, and he has a Master of Public Administration from City University. He is a first-generation immigrant from Michoacán, Mexico. He is the oldest of eleven children, and six of his siblings have also graduated from EWU.

In addition to electing Iñiguez as chair, the board also elected Vicki Wilson to serve as vice-chair. Originally appointed to the board in 2012, Wilson earned her BA in Business Administration from Eastern in 1981.

Also this fall the board said goodbye to long-time trustee Paul Tanaka, who's term expired. Gov. Jay Inslee will name a replacement.

The Board of Trustees work with EWU President Mary Cullinan to set the strategic direction of the university and help ensure that EWU is academically and financially accountable and successful.
