Diversity Vision Outlined

Published: May 19, 2016

CHENEY, Washington - Eastern Washington University President Mary Cullinan is outlining her vision for diversity and inclusive excellence on campus in a new message to students, faculty, staff and administrators.

"One week is not enough," says Cullinan when referring to the recently completed Diversity and Inclusion Week at Eastern.

Cullinan's letter reaffirms her commitment to ensuring EWU continues to foster deep communication and self-reflection when it comes to promoting access and opportunity.

"If we're going to achieve our goals of excellence, all of us need to work actively, continuing to create a welcoming culture that embraces diversity and inclusion and fosters mutual respect and civil dialogue."

The president commends the campus community for contributing to the university's diversity initiatives, and calls the planned Multicultural Center in the pending PUB remodel a significant step toward sustaining an inclusive climate.

Cullinan's full message, published as an opinion piece in the May 18 edition of The Easterner, can also be found on EWU 24/7.
