Giving Day Exceeds Goal

Published: December 01, 2016

CHENEY, Washington -  As part of its Giving Joy Day celebration, Eastern Washington University raised $274,770 to support EWU student scholarships. This total easily surpassed the $100,000 fundraising goal for the day.

The one-day campaign took place on the global day of giving known as #GivingTuesday, Nov. 29. The idea was for the Eastern community to spread some joy and encourage participation in the university's mission to raise more scholarship dollars.

"Scholarships are so critical to helping Eastern students stay in school when life throws them some financial curve balls," says Lisa Poplawski, director of Alumni Advancement at EWU. "Giving Joy Day was dedicated to sharing the impact of scholarship giving through the eyes of students and donors."

Coming off the well-recognized consumer events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is held annually the fist Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the U.S. It is designed to encourage generosity as we head into the busy holiday season and inspire people to give back to important causes they support.
