Published: January 11, 2016

CHENEY, Wash. - Up to 125 Eastern Washington University students, faculty and staff will be marching in Spokane's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Unity March, and following the event they will spread out around the region to take part in various service projects.

The Eastern volunteers will be part of a contingent of more than 360 people from area colleges and the local AmeriCorps program determined to make Monday, Jan. 18, a day on, not a day off.

The annual MLK Day rally and parade will begin at 10 a.m., at the INB Performing Arts Center in downtown Spokane. Later in the day, EWU volunteers will visit almost a dozen non-profits around Spokane County.

In the afternoon, EWU will be serving at the following non-profits:
• Volunteers of America
• Alexandria's House
• House of Charity
• Cheney Care Center
• Meals on Wheels
• Hearth Homes
• Volunteer Chore Services
• St. Margaret' Shelter

The volunteer effort is sponsored by the EWU Office of Community Engagement.
