CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University specialty faculty member Catheleen Schlotter has been named the 2017 School Social Worker of the Year by the School Social Worker Association of America (SSWAA).
Schlotter is an assistant principal and reengagement and intervention specialist at Snowden Elementary in the Cheney School District. She is also a faculty field instructor for EWU's School of Social Work, and a member of the school's Professional Advisory Board.
The School Social Worker of the Year award is given to an individual who is recognized by their peers, colleagues and supervisors as making outstanding contributions ranging from direct practice to state and national leadership.
The Washington Association of School Social Workers (WASSW), which announced Schlotter's award, also recognized her as its 2016 School Social Worker of the Year.
According to the WASSW a colleague shared this about her, "Catheleen strengthens partnerships, brings a whole child view to the table, and advocates for crucial wrap around services for families. She is well respected amongst teachers, students, community members, families and administrators."
Schlotter was honored at the SSWAA national conference in San Diego, CA on March 24.
