DEGREE: BA in Business Administration, Human Resources
CURRENT POSITION: HR Manager at Napa Auto Parts
- Why did you want to join the YPN Board? I wanted to join the YPN board because I wanted to help develop and assist my graduating Eagle family with stepping into their new careers. Through EWU events I have been fortunate enough to have met all kinds of leaders around Spokane who have helped me grow and develop into my current job. I wanted to be able to give back to a university that has provided so much for me and my family.
- How did you land in your current position? In my senior year at Eastern, I was taking one of my very last Human Resources classes before graduation and the teacher actually had some Human Resources Managers come into the class to talk about an internship that they were looking to recruit. I had been thinking about applying for an internship for quite some time, so I decided to put my name in. A few weeks later I started my very first Human Resources job all because of a networking event held by EWU. A few promotions and a few moves later I am the head of Human Resources for my company in the greater Spokane area.
- What is the best piece of career advice you ever received? The best piece of career advice that I have ever received was from my manager when I was over in Bellingham. She was able to put into perspective my role as a newer HRM and how I could continue to be successful. Having the hard skills and abilities is incredibly important, but how you connect with people and how you lead them has a much longer lasting impact.
- What is your favorite local hangout? There are a ton of great spots in Spokane, but my absolute favorite spot is Nectar in Kendall Yards. They have a great patio that is perfect for summer nights. Also, the staff there is totally amazing.
