The Social Studies Add-On Endorsement is for students who are already certificated to teach in Washington State.
With the endorsement, you will be qualified to teach Social Studies for grades 5-12 in the state of Washington. In the program, you will learn about economics, history throughout the world, geography and social studies in secondary schools.
Social Studies/Add-on Endorsement
For students who currently possess a Washington State Teaching Certificate. Also, this constitutes a primary endorsement for those possessing a BA in one of the Social Studies.
The Add-On Endorsement satisfies the Social Studies endorsement (grades 5–12) for the state of Washington.
Grade Requirements: this add-on endorsement requires a grade ≥B- in all coursework done in the add-on at Eastern.

An introduction to the study of spatial variations among human cultures and the patterns of interaction between humans and the natural environment. Special emphasis is placed on the social and spatial dynamics of globalization and its myriad impacts on the environment.

This course examines the flow of people, goods, images, ideas and knowledge that across borders of all kinds with greater rapidity and consistency in our increasingly interconnected world. Students will deepen their understanding of and expand their exposure to cultural beliefs, traditions, practices and values from communities throughout the world. The course will consider the role that culture plays in some of the major social, political, economic and religious tensions and conflicts.
Pre-requisites: must complete HIST 103, HIST 111, HIST 112, HIST 204, each with a grade ≥B-, before registering.
This course will address teaching methods, classroom management, and lesson plan development specific to Social Studies Education.
Pre-requisites: ENGL 201 or permission of instructor.
