Undergraduate Course Sequence

Our Suggestion

Trying to plan your undergraduate course sequence? See the tables below.

Note: This should not be used as a substitute for advising. It is also based on completing all the course work for the BA degree in 2 years, but you do not need to complete all the course work in 2 years. Each of the courses included in the tables below are currently offered once per academic year, in the quarters for which they appear below. PLAN 100, 201, and CSBS 320 are offered more than once per year, and can be taken in most quarters.

PLAN 464 is also a required class, but cannot be offered in the 2022-23 academic year. To fulfill this requirement, students are to take with GEOG 321 or GEOG 323, which are also offered in most quarters.

Please contact your advisor if you have any questions or concerns about planning your schedule.

Fall Quarter

Required Courses

First-Year Undergraduate Students

CourseCreditsTitle
PLAN-2015Introduction to Urban and Regional Planning
PLAN-4055Graphic Presentation
PLAN-4002Professional Practice
PLAN 4075Community Development

NOTE: PLAN 100 and CSBS 320 are also required classes, but these courses can be taken any quarter (they are usually offered 2-3 times/year).

PLAN 201 will be offered, ideally, twice/year. 18 credits is the maximum students can take in a quarter, beyond which they are considered overloaded. Students should consult with their advisor about which of these courses should be taken in their first quarter as a declared major. For instance, if students have already taken CSBS 320, PLAN 100 and/or PLAN 201 prior to declaring their major, then PLAN 400, 405, and 407 should be taken in this quarter. In general, students should take the courses listed here that they have not already taken. If CSBS 320 or PLAN 100 have not already been taken, then they should be taken as soon as is feasible (they are not pre-requisites for other courses, so there is flexibility here), as with GEOG 321 or GEOG 323.
