Parker Shaw has a PhD in Latin American Literature and Cultural Studies from the University of Pittsburgh (2015), and an MA and a BA in Spanish from the University of Utah (2007, 2005). His current research on Latin American culture focuses on ecological topics, often in connection with literature’s and film’s representations of “altered” states of consciousness. His earlier research is a literary and cultural study of varying senses of masculinities and nationality in Chilean Boy Scout manuals and magazines from the early 20th century. His research and teaching interests include cultural categories of identity such as gender, sexuality, race, nationality, and social class in canonical and non-canonical texts. She also studied at the Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Valpara\u00edso. <\/span>She taught beginning and intermediate Spanish language courses at the University of Utah from 2005-08, and intermediate through advanced Spanish language courses at Concord University from 2014-16. She has accompanied her university students on study abroad programs in Chile and Spain (University of Utah) and Mexico (Concord University). She began teaching at Eastern Washington University in 2016, where she teaches the 100 and 200-level Spanish courses.
