While limited to only string players this year, the orchestra is planning on learning and recording all four of Antonio\u00a0Vivaldi\u2019s\u00a0The Seasons\u00a0concertos. This fall they recorded the \u201cAutumn\u201d concerto with Julia Salerno, PhD, a professor of violin and viola at Eastern. During the winter quarter they will record the \u201cWinter\u201d concerto with Spokane Symphony Concertmaster Mateusz Wolski. During the spring quarter they will record the \u201cSpring\u201d concerto with Spokane Symphony Principal 2nd Violinist Amanda Howard-Phillips.<\/p>\n"},{"image":false,"title":"","heading_tag":"h2","show-hr":true,"copy":" In his forthcoming book on cello methods, John Marshall<\/strong>, professor of cello and director of orchestra at EWU, explains how coordination exercises can, among other benefits, help the shoulders of players \u201ctalk to each other.\u201d When one of our shoulders goes back, he explains, the other comes forward (and vice versa). \u201cIt\u2019s very important that we incorporate this into our cello playing.\u201d For this mini master class, Marshall uses video shot from three different perspectives to demonstrate how players can best keep their shoulders in conversation.
