Projects

For our first year we are still completing the final draft of our website and critical background studies and information on tribes across the region, and the key issues of mobility that relate to Native American reservations and Native American peoples across our region and the nation.  We will create a website and blog for our tribal research and SURTCOM efforts, and establish strong interaction with other SURTCOM research and scholarship.

During the first year of operation, we will carry out three major research reports on tribal mobility:

  • Tribal Transit Programs, Services, Issues, and Responses. Project leads: Dick Winchell, Richard Rolland, Margo Hill. Expected Presentation/Publication: March 2018
  • Mobility and Auto Dependence: Status of American Indian Reservation Residents in the Western United States. Project leads: Dick Winchell, Richard Rolland, Ning Li, Margo Hill. Expected Presentation/Publication: March 2018
  • Mobility Access and Smart Growth on American Indian Reservations in the Western United States: A Preliminary Analysis. Project leads: Jason Scully, Zachary Becker, Dick Winchell, Richard Rolland, Margo Hill. Expected Presentation/Publication: March 2018

These research reports will be developed in conjunction with Montana State University and SURTCOM, and will be published on the SURTCOM website and other sites. We plan to present research at tribal transportation and academic meetings, and create overviews for tribal newsletters and programs. Additional reports will be proposed, reviewed and developed for each year of activity through SURTCOM and US DOT University Programs review.
