Message from the Dean

Dean Laureen O'Hanlon

I am pleased to greet you as the Founding Dean of the College of Health Science and Public Health at Eastern Washington University on the Spokane campus.

The College of Health Science and Public Health at Eastern Washington University was founded in 2014 with the mission to graduate health care professionals in their chosen disciplines who are professionally, intellectually, and ethically prepared to meet the health care and wellness challenges and leadership demands of society. This is an invigorating time for students, researchers, and practitioners in health fields in our region. Spokane continues to grow as a regional hub for health care services, research, and innovation, which provides a rich setting for education and collaboration across health disciplines.

Like our city, our Spokane campus bursts with energy and creativity in the health fields. Our college offers a combination of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in communication sciences and disorders, dental hygiene, health services administration, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and public health. We also partner with the University of Washington to support the Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (RIDE) program for first-year dentistry students interested in rural practice. We operate a dental hygiene clinic and, in collaboration with Washington State University, a speech/hearing clinic on our Spokane campus as well. Both offer excellent services to our community and provide important clinical experiences for our students. We also support the Eastern Washington Area Health Education Center, in partnership with the University of Washington, which serves rural communities in our region by assisting practitioners with continuing education opportunities and promoting health professions among youth in rural areas. In all these areas and many more, our students, faculty, and staff are engaged in community-based projects, events, and services that meet real needs in our community, many of which are interprofessional in nature.

As Dean, I am passionate about working with our campus, community, and alumni partners to advance the mission of the College of Health Science and Public Health. I encourage you to explore our website to learn more about our college.
