Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders
(Graduate Programs in Speech-Language Pathology)

Application Process:

Students who would like to be considered for admission into the Communication Sciences and Disorders Graduate Program must meet the admissions requirements of both the EWU Office of Graduate Studies and the Communication Sciences and Disorders Graduate Program.

The application process is a two-part process. You need to apply to EWU Graduate Programs and you need to apply for the Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders through Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application Service (CSDCAS).

The application deadline for fall 2018 is January 5, 2018. The CSDCAS application process will be available beginning September 15, 2018.

To complete your application:

  • Apply online to EWU Graduate Programs at:

  • GRE scores are sent to CSDCAS only.  The GRE code for EWU is 1788
  • Official transcripts are sent to CSDCAS only at:

  • Three Letters of Reference that support the applicant's suitability for a career in speech, language and hearing. At least two of the letters must be from a university instructor in SLP. These letters are to be sent to CSDCAS only.
  • Typed 1½ page essay addressing why you want to pursue a graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology. The essay will be sent to CSDCAS only.

Requirements to be Accepted into the Program:

  • A baccalaureate degree or post-baccalaureate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology from an appropriately-accredited college or university with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 in the last 90 quarter-hour or 60 semester-hour credits.
  • Participate in an interview. Applicants selected for an interview will be notified after the admissions committee has reviewed all applications.
  •  Although Graduate Programs does not specify a cut-off score for the GRE, the Communication Sciences and Disorders Graduate Program strongly recommends that the student earn a combined score of approximately 300 points. In addition, the student should earn a score of 4 or higher on the Analytical Writing section of the GRE.

Prospective applicants: For academic year 2017/18 we received 234 applications to our graduate program. Fifty were offered admission and 25 matriculated for Fall Semester 2017. The average GPA for these acceptances was 3.70. The average analytical writing score for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) was 4.0; the average quantitative was 148 and verbal 150.
