In partnership with the Washington State Department of Health and local health agencies, the MPH at EWU proudly presents a monthly presentation featuring the important work of Public Health to protect and improve the health of communities.

Experts gather to discuss major Public Health issues, key challenges, evidence-based practice, potential solutions and the context that influences our health every day.

Maria Courogen, MPH

MARIA COUROGEN, MPHMaria Courogen, MPH is the Special Assistant for Systems Transformation at the Washington State Department of Health. She leads a team that is helping public health evolve its governmental system through Foundational Public Health Services work and adapt to and partner with the transforming health care delivery system.


Charisse Pop, MA, MBA, LMHC

Charisse Pop

Charisse grew up in Eastern Washington and has 20 years of non-profit and social service experience. She has a Masters in Counseling Psychology and started out in social services as a therapist working with adolescent girls. She then went on to earn a Masters in Business Administration to support the work of others as an administrator. Charisse continued in administration, working for the Spokane County Regional Support Network overseeing a provider network, contracting, fiscal allocations, utilization, and working with other counties and regions as chair of County Human Services for several years. She then returned to her roots at Excelsior and served as Chief Business Officer. In her free time, she loves being at home with family, weekend outings, and playing with her sidekick dog.
