Twitter Job Chat

Next Twitter Job Chat: TBD

What is a twitter chat?

A twitter chat is a conversation over twitter using a unique hashtag surrounding a given topic. We will be asking employers a series of questions about the topic. You're welcome to join in at any time! Just use the hashtag #ewujobchat in your tweets. Remember to start your tweet with something other than @, so that everyone in the conversation can see your tweets.

How to Participate

  1. At the time of the scheduled chat, log into Twitter and type #ewujobchat into the search bar. If you do not have a Twitter account, you can still see the chat, but you'll have to create an account if you want to participate.
  2. The chat moderator, @ewucareers, will begin the chat by introducing the employers. @ewucareers will then start off the Q & A with a question.
  3. Every new question will begin with Q and then the number of the question. Answers to the question will begin with A and the corresponding number.
    For example:
Q1 - What's the best way to find out if a career is right for me? #ewujobchat
A1 - Do an informational interview with someone in the field and volunteer in the industry to get hands on experience #ewujobchat
  4. Join the conversation at any time by including #ewujobchat in your tweets.
  5.  You can use TweetChat if you'd like a more chat room type of environment. TweetChat automatically adds the hashtag to each tweet for you. Turn off "buffering" in the settings to make sure you see all the tweets as they come in.
  6. Follow @ewucareers to stay up to date on when the next twitter job chat will be held.

Tweeting 101

  • Hashtags: The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. If you Tweet with a hashtag on a public account, anyone who does a search for that hashtag may find your Tweet
  • Usernames: The @ sign is used to call out usernames in Tweets: "Hello @ewucareers!" People will use your @username to mention you in Tweets, send you a message or link to your profile. It's similar to tagging someone on a Facebook post.
  • There is a 140 character limit on tweets.
