Hands-On Activities & Demonstrations
10:00 am to 1:00 pm

Unearthed: The Ice Age Experience

Department: Geosciences

Location: ISC 302

Contact: Lindsay MacKenzie

Step back in time and get hands-on with real Ice Age fossils. See, touch, and explore the remains of mammoths, giant bison, and other ancient creatures that once roamed North America.

Chemistry Exploration Station

Department: Chemistry

Location: ISC 117

Experience chemistry through a series of interactive demonstrations and activities:

  • From Bugs to Brilliant Colors
  • Oobleck
  • Cool Chemistry: Dry Ice Bubbles
  • Ink Pen Chromatography
  • The Color-Changing Clock: Briggs-Rauscher Oscillating Reaction

Fingerprint Detective: Exploring the Science of Identification

Department: Chemistry

Location: ISC 113

Discover how forensic scientists use fingerprints to identify individuals through a series of hands-on activities. Record and classify your own fingerprints, learn techniques for developing and lifting latent prints from everyday objects, and practice comparing fingerprint patterns to find matching prints. This interactive experience provides an engaging introduction to one of the most important tools in forensic investigation.

Journey Through the Human Body: A Virtual Reality Adventure

Department: Biology

Location: ISC 221

Experience the human body like never before through virtual reality. Using VR headsets, you’ll explore detailed 3D models of anatomical systems, travel through organs and tissues, and gain a unique perspective on how the body’s structures work together. This immersive experience brings anatomy to life in a way that traditional models and textbooks cannot.

Rocket Launch Demonstration: Science in Flight

Department: Mechanical Engineering

Location: CEB courtyard

Watch as pressurized rockets soar skyward in a series of exciting launch demonstrations. Learn how engineers and scientists use principles of pressure, force, and aerodynamics to design rockets and predict their performance. This high-flying event showcases the physics that makes rocket flight possible.

Biology Discovery Station

Department: Biology

Location: TBA

THAT Lives in THERE??? Living Critters in Pond Water
Explore pond water under a microscope and discover the amazing tiny organisms living within it. You’ll also examine a variety of fascinating objects using high-quality microscopes.

Use Your Skull
Become a wildlife detective by examining animal skulls. Learn how scientists use skull features to identify animals and determine what they eat.

Is It Native?
Test your knowledge of local plants and animals in a fun interactive game. Learn which species are native to our area and earn cool prizes along the way!

Precision Robotics in Action

Have you ever wanted to operate a robot? Come see EWU’s industrial robots in action and try operating one yourself! Learn how engineers use wireless communication, control systems, and automation to perform complex tasks with accuracy and efficiency

Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream (while supplies last)

Location: Top of the stairs (1st floor) in ISC
