About<\/h2>\n

Completion of this major and the general degree completion requirements for elementary education (Elementary Education Required Core, 70 credits) satisfies the Washington State requirements for an elementary education teaching endorsement (grades K-8) and for a middle-level mathematics endorsement (grades 4-9).<\/p>\n

All candidates for certification must pass the WEST-E\/NES subject matter test to receive an endorsement for certification purposes.\u00a0For complete certification requirements refer to\u00a0the\u00a0Department of Education<\/a>. Course prerequisites may also apply.<\/em><\/p>\n

Student Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n

Students who successfully earn a BAE in Mathematics\/Elementary Major and Middle-Level Endorsement from EWU should be able to do the following:\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n

  • Describe and demonstrate an ability to use the Mathematical Practices (CCSSM) and a\u00a0productive disposition as a student and teacher of mathematics;<\/li>\n
  • Demonstrate and apply in the classroom a profound understanding of fundamental mathematics within the K\u20138 curriculum, of how these topics progress within the K\u20138 range, of how these topics extend and relate to the mathematics in the secondary curriculum, and of the fundamental concepts in the curriculum in the secondary curriculum and beyond;<\/li>\n
