{"id":12718,"date":"2019-12-17T12:39:26","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T20:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/cstem\/?post_type=stories&#038;p=12718"},"modified":"2024-06-28T12:39:42","modified_gmt":"2024-06-28T19:39:42","slug":"ewu-geology-student-recognized-with-prestigious-prize","status":"publish","type":"stories","link":"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/cstem\/news\/ewu-geology-student-recognized-with-prestigious-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"EWU Geology Student Recognized with Prestigious Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ethan Ducken, a junior majoring in geology at EWU, was awarded the Environmental Science\u2013Geology Murdock Poster Prize for his presentation \u201csUAV Mapping of the Porcupine Bay Road Landslide Complex\u201d at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/murdocktrust.org\/science-research-and-education\/murdock-college-science-research-conference\/28th-annual-murdock-college-science-research-conference-2019\/\">2019 Murdock College Science Research (MCSR) Conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For his project, Ducken used a drone to make a high-resolution, 3D map of the 2017 Lake Roosevelt landslide site\u2014the scene of a major geological event that closed Lincoln County\u2019s Porcupine Bay Road for two years\u2014to be used for classification and measurements. A letter from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust reads, \u201cEthan excelled in every way. Pritchard was also recognized for his role as a research advisor.
