If you are admitted, we will need an official transcript with your degree posted. (Some international students may need to send us an official copy of their diploma or degree certificates.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What types of programs are offered?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two different types of programs are offered at the Graduate level at EWU: <\/span><b>Graduate Degrees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (which result in a master\u2019s degree and are between 36 &#8211; 108 credits), and <\/span><b>Graduate Certificates <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(a shorter term of study in a specialized topic area and are between 12 &#8211; 32 credits). Each degree program and each certificate program has their own individual application, so be sure you have selected the correct type of program before you submit your application.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How long is an application valid?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your application is valid for the specific program and term in which you submitted it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What if I previously applied to a Graduate Program?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Application materials are kept for 2 years. But you will have to fill out and submit another application once your original application is one year old. If you are applying to a different program, you will also need to fill out an application for the new program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Are there any special instructions for McNair Scholars?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Complete the online graduate application. Email <\/span><a href=\"mailto:gradprograms@ewu.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gradprograms@ewu.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with the subject line: McNair Scholar. Attached an official McNair letter\/waiver from your program director (signed) showing your participation in the McNair Scholars Program. State that you have completed the online application. Include the name of the program you are applying to. We will waive your application fee at this time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Will you be an F1-Visa student who will not be applying to an online accelerated program?<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/apply\/international\/international-graduate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Graduate Student<\/a> application instruction page.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Application Fee Waivers:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Can my application fee be waived?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A McNair scholar may receive a waiver, otherwise a student\u2019s application fee will not be waived, deferred, or refunded for any reason. The application fee must be paid before the application will be processed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>I have already paid an application fee. Do I have to pay it again if applying to another program or reapplying?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yes. You will have to submit an application fee every time you apply to a graduate program (excluding the dual programs:\u00a0 MBA\/MPA, MPA\/MURP, MPA\/MSW, MBA\/MPAcc). Only one fee is assessed for dual-degree applicants. Transcripts that have been submitted may be used for other programs. Students may be eligible for financial aid at four credits. Graduate Student Appointments (GSA)s are eligible at two or more credits. If they are taking less than eight credits, they need to inform the department so they can properly advise you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What are the program&#8217;s admission requirements?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Each program will have separate requirements. Please visit the program&#8217;s webpage for application requirements.<br \/>\nTo explore various graduate programs, visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/grad\/programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Graduate Programs Explorer<\/a> tool.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you mean by \u201cofficial\u201d transcripts?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For our purposes, &#8220;official&#8221; means sent directly from the issuing office to our receiving office. This definition comes from the policies of Eastern Washington University and cannot be petitioned. We judge transcripts to be official if:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transcripts arrive to us in an envelope sealed by the issuing institution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transcripts arrive to us via a secured electronic transcript exchange program, National Clearing House, Parchment Services, or CTC from the undergrad office.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transcripts arrive to us in an envelope sealed by a US State Department sponsored organization (e.g. USEF), and are attested by that organization.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The United States government considers educational records to be federally protected and private. We cannot obtain your records unless you arrange for them to be sent to us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What if I can\u2019t obtain an official transcript?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If your institution will not release your transcript because of a financial, disciplinary, or academic hold, you will need to work with your institution to resolve the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Where do official transcripts need to be sent?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Current and Former EWU Students: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">EWU already has your transcript. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Most EWU graduate programs only require one transcript. A degree-bearing transcript (with a bachelor&#8217;s or master&#8217;s degree) and at least two year&#8217;s worth of credits on it is required. If not, please submit transcripts with your last 2 years\u2019 worth of credits.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Go to the transcript website for the prior university where you earned your highest degree (bachelor&#8217;s or master&#8217;s).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Order an electronic, official transcript (If the prior college only has mail as an option, expect them to take 4-6 weeks for them to arrive.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have it sent to Eastern Washington University<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Music and EDS in School Psychology applicants must provide an official transcript from all prior colleges attended. For questions, please review the program application instructions on the program website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>For Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Communication Sciences &amp; Disorders Applicants: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">all official transcripts should be submitted directly to PTCAS, OTCAS, or CSDCAS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"btn btn-primary\" role=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/apply\/graduate\/#transcript\">Transcript Guidelines<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>If I send transcripts, references, or other application materials ahead of time, how long will you keep it on file before discarding them?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Official transcripts 2 years<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Official test scores 2 years<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Can the GRE or GMAT be waived?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The requirement for graduate students to take the GRE or GMAT exam is department or program specific.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The MBA graduate program will waive the GMAT if your last 90 quarter credits or 60 semester credits are \u22653.0 GPA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/grad\/contact\/\">Please contact the program to inquire whether the GRE is required.<\/a> In very rare circumstances, a GRE has been waived, typically when a GRE score has been on file but is older than the five (5) year limit or when a master\u2019s degree (which required a GRE) has been earned by the applicant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Can recommendation letters be from anyone?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Not necessarily. Applicants are encouraged to get their references from professors, supervisors and applicable colleagues when possible. References from friends and family are usually not acceptable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Can an English language proficiency test requirement be waived for international applicants?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No. All international graduate applicants to EWU are required to take an English language proficiency exam, except for those who have earned a college degree from the United States or another native English-language school or institution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What are the application deadlines?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Deadlines vary from department to department; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/grad\/contact\/\">contact the program<\/a> to which you are applying for specific deadlines. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">International applications should be submitted approximately six months prior to the start of the intended term to allow for the necessary admission documentation and issuance of an I-20. Online accelerated program deadlines can be found at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/online.ewu.edu\/degrees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/online.ewu.edu\/degrees\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Online accelerated programs are fully online. Students in fully online programs do not need to be in the U.S. to study. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can also check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/records-and-registration\/calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Academic Calendar<\/a> for other deadlines and academic dates concerning Quarter Students, Semester Students, and Online Accelerated Students. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Making changes to the application after submission?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Currently, applicants are unable to upload further documents or information to their application after it&#8217;s been submitted. If you have additional documentation that needs to added to your application, please submit a ticket to our office by emailing <a href=\"mailto:gradprograms@ewu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gradprograms@ewu.edu<\/a> and let us know what program you are applying to, your name, and what documents you need to have added to your application.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n"},{"label":"Admission","copy":"<p><b>When will I hear if I have been admitted or denied?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The amount of time it takes to hear about the decision varies by department, but you will receive emailed denial letter if you are not accepted to your chosen program.<\/p>\n<p><b>What was the reason I was denied admission?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For specific reasons, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/grad\/contact\/\">contact the graduate director or graduate advisor in that department<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do I know if I have been given a Graduate Student Appointment position (GSA)?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/grad\/contact\/\">Please check in with your program\u2019s advisor<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">EWU offers three different types of GSA positions:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Graduate Teaching Assistant (TA)<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A teaching assistantship (TA) is an appointment in which a graduate student\u2019s primary duty is teaching or serving as a teaching assistant. The TA may assist faculty in teaching undergraduate courses and labs, grading examinations, problem sets, or lab assignments, setting up displays for lectures and labs, or preparing or maintaining laboratory equipment. TAs are available to qualify graduate students in academic departments. Students should contact their department\/program to inquire about TA opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Graduate Research Assistant (RA)<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A research assistantship (RA) is an appointment in which a graduate student is engaged in research under a faculty member\u2019s supervision. The faculty member is generally a principal investigator on a grant or contract. RAs are available in many departments and special programs. Students should contact their department\/program to inquire about RA opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Graduate Staff Assistant (SA)<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A staff assistantship (SA) is an appointment in which a graduate student engages in service that enhances their educational pursuits at EWU. The SA provides academic and administrative program support for units such as McNair, CAMP, Global Services, and other student services offices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n"},{"label":"Registration","copy":"<div>\n<p><b>Can I move my start term back?<br \/>\n<\/b>To ensure that students are fully prepared to start strong in their online accelerated program, students are not allowed to move their start term back in time. Example: if you apply to start in summer, you cannot move the application to start in spring.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>How do I register for a class if I\u2019m not admitted into a graduate program yet?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You must be admitted to a graduate program and confirm your admission to register for a class. If you are not in a graduate program, you may be admitted as a non-degree seeking student. The graduate non-degree application is located in the Graduate tab \u201cHow to Apply for Graduate Admission\u201d web page under \u201cChoose Your Application\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/apply\/non-degree\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Non-Degree tab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do I know what to register for?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All online accelerated programs usually have program plans available. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewu.edu\/grad\/contact\/\">Contact the advisor of your program<\/a> for more information about your program plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>I received a Registration Error and am unable to register. Who can help me?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you get a registration error, you can view more information about how to resolve that error on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/records-and-registration\/registration-errors-and-holds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Records and Registration Errors and Holds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> webpage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Can I temporarily take a break from my program and come back later?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have already completed a quarter or more of your program, yes. Students have 6 years to complete their chosen program. Any student who has already completed a quarter or more of course work and who may need to step away from course work for a while can do so. There is no action required at the time of stepping away. When you are ready to return, please email the Graduate Programs Office with your student ID number, the name of the program you are hoping to restart, and the term you would like to restart in at <a href=\"mailto:gradprograms@ewu.edu\">gradprograms@ewu.edu<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do I withdraw from my program?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are enrolled in classes, but want to completely cancel your enrollment, please withdraw from your program by completing the following steps:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(1) Fill out the \u201cComplete Withdrawal\u201d form on Records and Registration web page <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/records-and-registration\/withdrawals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/inside.ewu.edu\/records-and-registration\/withdrawals\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(2) Email the Graduate Programs Office at<\/span> <a href=\"mailto:gradprograms@ewu.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gradprograms@ewu.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and let us know from what program you are withdrawing. <\/span><\/p>\n"},{"label":"Graduate Housing","copy":"<p><b>Is Graduate Housing Available?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Housing is available to all EWU students, undergraduate and graduate alike. Current EWU graduate students may include in a graduate degree program, from any regionally accredited college or university, a maximum of 12 quarter or nine semester department not used toward an undergraduate degree.<\/p>\n<p><b>How do I see if my transfer credits are eligible? <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Current EWU graduate students hoping to bring in transfer credit from another institution must fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1jEKFR55RZI1Wcq1TarfP0WX30H5L29xc\/view\">Graduate Transfer Credit Eligibility form.<\/a>*<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Considerations before you fill this form out:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">An official transcript from the institution you earned the credit from must be on file for you. If there is not an official transcript from the institution you originally earned the credit from your credits will not be eligible for transfer until an official transcript has been submitted.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Are the credits you want to transfer from before or after you were awarded your last degree? If the credits are from before and counted towards your last degree, they cannot be transferred.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Are the credits you want to transfer 6 years older?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If the credits are 6 years or older, you must fill out an Appeals Packet. The student\u2019s request is reviewed by a committee for approval. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do I submit a Graduate Academic Appeal?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To submit a Graduate Academic Appeal, fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.ewu.edu\/grad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2022\/10\/Academic-Appeals-Form.pdf\">Graduate Appeals form<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>What do I need in order to submit a Graduate Academic Appeal?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All appeals must be initiated by the student and supported by the appropriate graduate programs\u2019 advisor or director. For semester and cohort-quarter program students, you may be contacted by your program director about a Program-Requested probationary status due to unmet handbook requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How can I get out of a probationary status?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once in a probationary status, students who receive all grades at a B- or above are allowed to continue their studies and can exit a probationary academic standing status after their cumulative GPA is above a 3.0.<\/p>\n<p><strong>While on probation, I received a grade below a B-. What happens next?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once in a probationary status, students who receive any grades below a B- in the following term(s) will be dismissed from their program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;ve been dismissed from my program for the first time. What do I do to resume my studies?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To be re-instated after a first-time academic dismissal, students are required to sit out one full term before they are eligible to reapply to their program.
