Get Lit Festival!
The 26th annual Get Lit! festival, hosted by EWU’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program, will be held April 11-14.
Get Lit! is the state of Washington’s longest-running literary festival and the university’s premier literary event. It features four days filled with readings, workshops and open mic events featuring both highly sought-after authors and local literary talent.
Giving Joy Day
EWU celebrates our 142nd birthday on April 3, 2024 – the day we have designated as Giving Joy Day, Eastern’s single largest fundraising effort each year.
Last year, we raised more than $456,000 for student scholarships and program support. This year, the goal is $500,000.
Winter 2024 Production: The Prom
Four eccentric Broadway stars are in desperate need of a new stage. So, when they hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue…and themselves.
The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance on the straight and narrow—but when one student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town has a date with destiny.
Scholarship Supports Future Speech Therapist
At a time when small towns are struggling to find trained therapists and health care providers, an EWU graduate student is poised to make a difference.
Hailey Arland ‘23, is earning a master’s degree in communications sciences and disorders (CMSD) with the goal of providing vital speech therapy services to students in underserved rural communities.
“Being from Davenport, which is a very small town, I graduated with a class of 43 students. I really got to see the impact of what a [speech language pathologist] can do for students and just education in general,” Arland says. “So, I would really love to go back into small schools and work with kids.”
Arland received a $5,450 Kathy (Iverson) Privratsky Honorary Endowed Scholarship to help make her goal of becoming a speech language pathologist [SLP] a reality.
Inaugural Nursing Cohort is Ready to Learn
An enthusiastic crowd of students, faculty and staff gathered at Spokane’s newly restored, turn-of-the century SIERR building to celebrate the new home of EWU’s Nursing and Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSMD) programs.
The SIERR Sneak Peak event, held on Aug. 22, gave visitors a chance to enjoy complementary ice cream while touring EWU’s main-level Nursing Program suite, which includes simulation labs, offices and classrooms, and the upper-level classrooms for the long-running CMSD program.
Located on the eastern end of the University District, the building is part of a health sciences hub developed by McKinstry Co.

Commuters in Spokane can leave their cars at either the South Hill or Jefferson “park and rides” and hop on a bus to Cheney. Hundreds of our community members utilize this service every day.
The Eagle Station offers a comfortable waiting area for travelers on campus with student mobility in mind. The station is equipped with wind barriers, heaters, 1,500 square feet of covered space and real-time scheduling screens.

Prairie Restoration
EWU’s Prairie Restoration Project will restore a 120-acre parcel of university-owned land to its native habitat, thus creating a “living laboratory” of restored Palouse prairie proximate to the Cheney campus. Together with the Spokane and other local tribes — Native peoples who for millennia called these bounteous hills home — we will connect with the land and learn from it.
