How it Works

How it Works

Charitable distributions from IRAs may be transferred directly from a traditional IRA to a public charity (such as EWU Foundation) with the following stipulations:

  • Donors must be 70 ½ or older to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to a public charity (EWU Foundation).
  • Donors must be 73 or older to direct their required minimum distribution (RMD) to charity (EWU Foundation). Note: The SECURE Act increased the age for RMD distribution to 73.
  • Charitable distributions are limited to $100,000 per taxpayer per year.
  • The distribution must be made payable to charity (EWU Foundation) by December 31 of the applicable tax year.
  • Charitable rollover gifts may fulfill a pledge to the EWU Foundation.
  • No goods, services, or benefits may be provided for charitable rollover gifts.
