About the OCE

About

Mark has served as the Director Community Engagement at EWU since July 2025. Prior to this role, he was the Director of Student Volunteerism at The University of Texas at Dallas and as the Assistant Director of Civic Engagement Programs at Northeastern University. Mark served as an AmeriCorps VISTA member at River University and Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH, and later was the National AmeriCorps VISTA Leader for Campus Compact in Boston, MA. After the completion of his AmeriCorps service years, Mark was the Special Assistant to the President at Campus Compact where he served as the Board of Directors liaison and led the organization’s legislative advocacy efforts.

Mark holds a Bachelor’s in Speech Communication from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University. He also completed the Institute for Non-Profit Management & Leadership at Boston University. 

Mark has previously served on the board of the AmeriCorps Alums Boston Chapter and is currently the co-chair of PICCE-Partners in Campus and Community Engagement board. He has volunteered regularly with many organizations including Generation Citizen, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and was the 2017 Volunteer of the Year at the St. Ambrose Family Shelter in Boston. 

Originally from Hunt, Texas, Mark and enjoys kayaking, hiking, perusing record stores, seeking out the best local breweries, standing increasingly further away from the stage as concerts as he gets older, traversing the countryside to catch a game in a new minor league baseball stadium, winning pub trivia, attempting and failing to not get too emotionally invested in San Antonio Spurs games, and travelling to wherever the airfare is cheapest with his wife, Maura.

About

Jasmin is a lifelong Spokane resident and Rogers High School graduate. She earned her undergraduate degree from Washington State University and her MBA from Eastern Washington University. Jasmin currently serves as the Associate Director of the Office of Community Engagement at Eastern Washington University.

Beyond her professional role, she is an active community leader, serving on the Executive Board of the Spokane Lilac Festival Association, Advisory Board for the Wishing Star Foundation, board member of the Northeast Community Center, member of the Hillyard Neighborhood Council, and is a Leadership Spokane graduate. Having called many neighborhoods in Northeast Spokane home growing up, Jasmin is passionate about giving back to her community and helping others thrive.

A proud Pacific Northwest local, Jasmin loves living in a place where every season offers something new to enjoy outdoors, whether it’s hiking, kayaking, biking, or simply exploring the region’s natural beauty. When she’s not outside, you can often find her gathered around a table with family and friends, indulging her enthusiasm as an avid board game fanatic.

Maddy Halverson is the Community Engagement Specialist for the Office of Community Engagement (OCE) at Eastern Washington University. She grew up in Spokane and spent five years in Bellingham earning her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies at Western Washington University.

While she misses the lush forests and ocean views of Western Washington, Maddy is excited to be back in the Inland Northwest, reconnecting with her roots and working in Cheney with the Office of Community Engagement.

One of Maddy’s greatest passions is community-building and seeing community work as a beautiful puzzle where resources, local businesses, students, and community members come together. She finds joy in helping those pieces connect and in creating meaningful partnerships that turn collaboration into opportunity and lasting impact.

When Maddy isn’t in local high schools leading the EWU Aspire near-peer mentorship program or in the OCE scheming up big ideas for the future, you can find her crocheting, rewatching her favorite sitcoms, getting out on the ski hill or local lakes, or getting her zen on in hot yoga.
