Engage With
Your Community

Make a Difference

Eastern Washington University encourages students to actively engage with their communities.

Whether you’re seeking an opportunity for service-learning in Washington, interested in organizing large group service projects, or simply looking to volunteer with a local nonprofit, the Office of Community Engagement (OCE) is here to help you get started.

We support students by:

  • Matching you with opportunities that align with your interests, schedule, and academic or service-learning goals.
  • Providing guidance and training for planning and leading large group service projects.
  • Connecting you with fellow Eagles who are passionate about service, leadership, and community impact.

Community engagement is key to applied learning at EWU. Explore ways to get involved and give back while you’re a student.

Ways to Get Involved

EWU offers numerous community engagement opportunities for college students.

Enroll in a Service-Learning Course

Service-learning courses combine academic learning with real-world experience. You'll apply what you learn in the classroom while providing meaningful service to community organizations.

Volunteer With a Local Nonprofit

Nonprofits across our region need volunteers. Opportunities may include mentoring youth, serving meals at community sites, leading activities at drop-in centers, or spending time with seniors in assisted living facilities.

Plan a Large Group Service Project

Student clubs and organizations can support local nonprofits by assisting with fundraising events, organizing food or clothing drives, helping build houses, or contributing to facility improvements.

Participate in a Community-Based Internship

EWU Career Services can help you find internships with organizations or government agencies that offer valuable professional experience, skill development, and community engagement opportunities.
