BAE - Physical Education, has married Jennifer, a registered nurse at
the Cheney Care Center. He is currently teaching PE and sports medicine
at Cheney High School and athletic training for all Cheney High School
Students.

and is expecting her first child in March 2000.

BAE - Reading, now lives in Hadlock, Washington and is a teacher after
completing her student teaching in March 1999. She is gaining experience
through substitute teaching in western Washington.

BAB - Accounting, has just had a career change and is now living and working
in Yakima. She is a certified public accountant for Moss Adams LLP, a
member of Moores Rowland.

BS - Biology, is now a laboratory assistant for Legacy Emmanuel Medical
Center in Oregon, but she is planning to further her education.
Faculty member
Ralph Manzo
78, died April 4, 2000. He was a long-time choral director at Eastern
(1960-86), and his group, the Collegians, a symphonic choir and vocal
jazz group won national and international acclaim throughout his prestigious
career. In 1998 he was selected for the Washington Music Educators Hall
of Fame for his contribution to music education. His family has requested
memorials to a charity of choice or Franciscan Hospice, Box 2197, 1717
S. J St., Tacoma, WA.

Member Felix Boateng
who served as director of the Black Education Program at Eastern from
1983-1996, died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center April 26 after
a brief illness. He was director of the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural
Center at Vanderbilt. While at Eastern, Boateng helped arrange the sister
university relationship between EWU and Cape Coast University in his native
Ghana.

Teaching Certification - Education, passed away October 23, 1999. She
had previously been a resident of Seattle.

Stenseth
General Studies, passed away March 26, 1997 due to natural causes. Her
granddaughter conveyed Helen's fond memories of Cheney Normal School and
that the family was interested to see how much Eastern Washington University
has changed.

Grace Pierce
BAE - Education, followed her husband into rest at the age of 89. She
died Saturday, February 8, 2000. She was a 69-year area resident and for
two years after her career at Eastern, she moved to St. John with her
husband Harry Pierce. Together they tended a farm and she worked as a
homemaker. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Fire Department,

Pierce
BA - Geography, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2000, at age 87
in Vancouver, WA. He learned to use a computer at age 86 and wrote a life
history (only the happy parts). Little did his kin know that cancer was
spreading through his brain. He handled his last days with grace and humor
much the same as he did during his life.

Proctor
General Studies, died at age 87 on Thursday, February 4, 2000. She taught
for three years in Cedar Creed, Idaho before marrying her husband Hobert
Proctor and moving to the Palouse in 1934. She then began teaching for
the Palouse School District in 1948 finally retiring in 1973.

Life-Time teaching certification, passed away on October 31, 1999.

Buckley
BA - Industrial Technology, died February 28, 2000. He taught at both
LaConner and Enumclaw, Washington, and served as a naval officer in WWII.
He was Associate Superintendent of Schools at the time of his retirement
from the Seattle Public Schools after 30 years of service. Memorials may
be sent to the Alzheimer's Association of Washington.

Ray
Education, died on December 25, 1999. She married in 1942 to George Ray
and started her teaching career at Logan, Stadium and Audubon Schools.
She was active in the Messiah Lutheran Church and a member of STA, WEA,

Storer
Elementary, died August 25, 1999. He taught science in Colville high schools
and then entered WWII in 1943. After the war, he returned to Colville
and continued teaching science until 1962 when he moved to Normandy Park,
and taught in the Highline School District in Seattle. Later he was chairman
of the science department at Tyee High School. After retirement in 1979,
he built his retirement home on Lopez Island in the American San Juans
overlooking the water.

Eken
BA - Early Childhood Education, passed on December 29, 1999 at the age
of 70. Eken taught at Tekoa Elementary School from 1950-52 and then joined
the US Army and served in Korea until 1954. He also married in 1954 and
taught in Ritzville, and Bellevue Washington until his retirement in 1981.

BA - Early Childhood Education, passed away December 4, 1999 at the age
of 100 years young. She had previously been a resident of Clarkston, Wash.

White
BA - Economics, served in the US Army with the sixth Mechanized Calvary
Reconnaissance Troop. He later became a special agent with the Internal
Revenue Service in Spokane from 1958-80. Memorial contributions may be

Hill
MA - Music, passed on December 25, 1999 at the age of 76. A 65-year Spokane
resident, Hill was the music teacher at Glover Middle School and Havermale
Alternative Center, and also taught in several area grade schools. He
was the music director for the All City Boys Choir, the St. Paul's United
Methodist Church and the Unitarian Universalist Church. He served with
several other organizations and was active in the Spokane community. Memorial

BA - General Business, died Friday, February 25, 1999 at the age of 55.
He worked for Sears and later for Chem-Mark Chemical and Brush. He was
a 45-year Spokane resident and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and
the Masonic Lodge. He served on the Nine Mile Falls School Board from
1975 to 1991 and was a team coordinator for the Lutheran Marriage Encounter.

Arts, died Sunday, January 23, 2000 at the age of 70 in Medical Lake,
Washington. Originally from North Dakota, she came to the Spokane area
and taught at Wilson Elementary School for 23 years. She was a member
of the Medical Lake Legion Auxiliary and the Friends of the Library.

BA - Social Work, followed her husband into rest Sunday, January 2, 2000
at the age of 64. Before her studies at Eastern, she served in the US
Army form 1955-57 and was a high school teacher in Silverton, Colorado.
'73 Barbara
Johnson
Psychology, passed away on January 12, 2000 at the age of 48. She was
a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and later became a Licensed Ophthalmology
Technician. She managed Wendel and all of her many longtime coworkers.
She was also active in the PTA and Girl Scouts. Contributions may be made
to the Katie and Marie Johnson Trust c/o Washington Mutual.

Crawford
BA - Biology, died Saturday, December 25, 1999. He entered the Air Force
in 1968 and served at Fairchild Air Force Base and was discharged in 1972.
Educated at Eastern, Crawford married Mary Stephens and later worked for
Cheney Parks and Recreation Department. He became a master craftsman,
selling his art in Coeur d'Alene after 1989.

BA - Business Administration, died of Alzheimer's disease at the age of
73. She was a long-time politician serving seven straight terms in the
House of Representatives for the 5th and 6th districts. She retired in
1996 due to her failing health.

BA - Personnel Management & MA - Business Administration, passed away
on Monday, February 28, 2000 at the age of 59. She worked as the finance
director at Goodwill Industries for 14 years. She also served on the board
of directors for the Spokane Community Detox Center.

Williams-Jeffrey
BA - Radio/TV, died November 9, 1999 in Kent, Washington. She loved swimming
and tennis and enjoyed sewing.

BA - Liberal Arts, died at the age of 40 on Friday, January 28, 2000 of
multiple myeloma. After graduating from Eastern, he moved to Seattle where
he worked as a game-play counselor and correspondent for Nintendo of America.

BA - Physical Education, died February 6, 2000. A lifetime resident of
Spokane, she taught Physical Education for School District #81 at Lidgerwood,
Garfield and Browne Elementary Schools. Memorials may be made to American

BA - Home Economics Education, died Sunday, December 26, 1999 from injuries
suffered in a car accident near Polson, Montana. She had married Roger
Wallace in 1983. They owned the Polson Country Club Pro Shop and the Bunkers
Restaurant at the country club. She was also a member of the Polson Ladies
Elks Club.

MSW - Social Work, died November 18, 1999 and the age of 68. She had previously
been a resident of Lolo, Montana.
