Asia University America Program
The Asia University America Program at Eastern Washington University, a unique component of Asia University, Tokyo, Japan, provides students with an opportunity to participate in an innovative study abroad program.
Creative Writing
Students may obtain a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing or a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a Creative Writing major. The program offers writing workshops, literary studies, and form and theory courses in poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction.

English
Our English degrees provide students with a strong background in critical analysis, the structure of language, and literary history before they begin specific career preparation in their selected programs.
Film
Our intensive horizontally and vertically integrated program of screenwriting, production and theory/criticism prepares students for creative roles in the film and television industry.
Humanities
The humanities are more than one thing; they include many ways of expressing and understanding human values. Thus, the Humanities Program is designed for innovative, integrative, and interdisciplinary study - including some of the sciences and many of the social sciences.
Journalism
Journalism is an essential part of American life and culture, which makes journalists among the most influential people in our society. Journalists are in the unique position of interpreting the political, social, economic, cultural and everyday events that affect all members of society, influencing the choices we each make.
Modern Languages & Literatures
Language is one of the foundations of ethnic and cultural diversity, and the study of languages and cultures is one of the hallmarks of an educated person.
Music
The Music program at EWU is committed to students who seek careers in music as well as to providing music instruction and experience for the general university student. Graduates are prepared to become performers, composers, conductors, theorists, teachers or scholars.
Philosophy
The philosophy program at Eastern offers a set of introductory courses that figure prominently in general education requirements, under-gird the more advanced courses, and address some of the haunting why questions we carry with us from childhood, when we were all philosophizing.
Physical Education, Health and Recreation
The Department of Physical Education, Health and Recreation is committed to enhancing quality of life through the promotion of wellness. Our mission is accomplished by educating students who are professionally and academically prepared and dedicated to addressing the wellness of a diverse society in a variety of environments.
Religious Studies
This minor is designed for those students majoring in an allied discipline and preparing for graduate seminary study, or for students majoring in any other discipline but wishing to pursue the subject of religion for its importance in other fields.
Theatre
The Theatre Program offers: The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, for those who wish to enter the profession or for those who wish to prepare for graduate school; and the Bachelor of Arts in Education, with a major in Theatre, for those who wish to teach grades 4-12. Minors are available in both degree programs.

Business & Marketing Education
A Bachelor of Arts in Business & Marketing Education allows a graduate to teach any business or marketing subject at the junior high, middle, or high school levels in Washington State.

Economics
The Economics Program at Eastern Washington University provides students with the skill set necessary to comprehend the complex and integral workings of our local, national and international economy.
Finance
The Finance major is for those students with career objectives in the financial management of business firms, banking and other financial institutions, insurance and the securities industries
Health Informatics Technology
Students admitted to the program would study a curriculum that blends three disciplines: health services administration, management information systems and computer science.
Health Services Administration
Health care is a very large continuum encompassing insurance companies; medical practices, clinics, hospitals; and a vast array of long term care services. As a graduate of the Health Services Administration Program, you will be prepared to work as a manager in the health care industry.
Management
The management program at Eastern Washington University has options in General Business, Human Resources, and Operations Management.
Management Information Systems
The major in Management Information Systems is oriented toward developing specialists who can design, implement and manage business information systems.
Marketing
Marketing deals with market research, product planning, pricing decisions, advertising, sales promotion and sales management. Marketing professionals occupy strategic territory between a firm and its external environment. The marketing program opens dynamic career possibilities in a broad spectrum of industries and services.
Master of Business Administration
EWU's MBA program prepares graduates to make an immediate impact on their current career or to prepare for a new career. Students are given unique opportunities to apply business theory and practice to real–world experiences through case studies, internships and collaborations with regional businesses.
Master of Public Administration
From social services to public roads, government authorizes, funds and delivers goods and services that are vital to the health of a community. Those who want to get ahead need to be able to influence, or at least anticipate, governmental actions. The Master of Public Administration degree is designed to prepare people for leadership roles in governmental and non-profit organizations.
Professional Accounting
Demand for Professional Accounting graduates is high across the United States. Eastern graduates have career opportunities in public accounting, industry, government, and not-for-profit organizations, as well as in such applications as auditing, taxation, information services and management services.
Urban & Regional Planning
The Urban Planning programs offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees in urban and regional planning. Both degree programs are professionally accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board.

Biology
Welcome to the Department of Biology's Homepage! A degree in Biology is the first step into finding a career in one of hundreds of growing fields in health sciences, biotechnology and environmental sciences; in government agencies concerned with resource management, environmental quality and medical research; and in educational institutions as teachers and laboratory technicians.
Chemistry and Biochemistry
Chemistry occupies a unique position within the modern sciences. Ultimately, most of the phenomena in the biological, geological, physical, environmental and medical sciences can be expressed in terms of the chemical and physical behavior of atoms and molecules.
Communication Disorders
Professional practice in Communication Disorders involves working with people who have impairments and disabilities of speech, language and hearing.
Computer Science
Welcome to the Computer Science Department Homepage! We're glad you've decided to stop by, and you really should visit in person sometime! Our department is friendly and attentive to students' needs, and there are students, staff, and faculty to get to know. The department encourages collaboration among students and faculty in technology-transfer development and research. You can pursue the study of computer science in a collegial environment, among other like-minded individuals, sharing creativity and insights in a way impossible outside of this environment.
Dental Hygiene
Eastern's Dental Hygiene Program is the only entry-level bachelor's degree program in the state of Washington. In fact, less than 15 percent of the dental hygiene programs in the United States offer this degree. This means that our graduates can pursue dental health careers that may be closed to people with dental hygiene certificates or associate degrees.
Design
A major in Visual Communication Design educates and prepares students to conceive and create creative solutions to satisfy the visual communication needs of society. Graduates are prepared for careers in graphic design, Web design, multimedia design, advertising, printing, publishing, or related fields
Engineering
The goal of the Department of Engineering & Design is to provide students the technical background required for careers in business, industry, or education. The department offers degrees in several fields of study ranging from the hands-on technological applications employed in programs such as Mechanical Engineering Technology to the conceptual elements of our new Electrical Engineering program.
Environmental Science
The Environmental Science program offers a practical, technically based, cross-disciplinary program centered on biology, chemistry and geology. The program integrates classroom work with extensive field, lab and research experience and allows students opportunities to interact with working environmental professionals. All students take an identical core of Environmental Science courses complemented by a concentration in one of the three core sciences.
Geology
Geology is the science of planet Earth. Geologists use elements of chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics in interpreting the evolution of the earth and its life forms. Applied geology addresses exploitation of earth resources, environmental quality and hazards and practical understanding of the planet on which we live.
Mathematics
A degree in mathematics is the key to a successful career in one of many diverse fields in growing demand of skilled mathematicians. Whether your goal is to become an elementary, secondary or college level mathematics teacher or you wish to pursue a career as an actuary, consultant or another exciting career in industry or government, we have a degree program to fit your needs.
Natural Science
Natural science is an area of emphasis under the Elementary Education Program. Successful completion of the natural science major along with a minor and the education coursework will qualify the student for a middle-level science endorsement (4th-9th grade). The natural science minor does not result in endorsement but is suited for a science specialist in grades kindergarten through 6th. Much of the required coursework is taught through inquiry pedagogy and spans six areas of science: astronomy, chemistry, earth science, life science, physics and space science.
Nursing
University nursing programs are taught at the WSU College of Nursing in Spokane. The college of nursing is shared by three institutions of higher education: Eastern Washington University, Washington State University and Whitworth University. This cooperative baccalaureate program is the first of its kind among colleges and universities in the United States. The nature of the consortium encourages an environment supportive of individual differences in students, faculty and institutional emphases; broadens the resources available to the college of nursing; and provides a diversity of student backgrounds and experiences which stimulate and enhance learning.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy (OT) is a health and rehabilitation profession that helps people of all ages to participate more fully in their day-to-day lives. Occupational therapist assist persons who are experiencing a physical, cognitive or emotional impairment.
Physical Therapy
Demand for physical therapists is high across the United States. Our Doctor of Physical Therapy graduates are well qualified, highly sought after and have a 100 percent pass rate on the National Licensure exam.
Physics
Physics is the study of the physical environment and the laws governing the behavior of particles, fields and space/time. More specifically, physicists study mechanics, heat, light, electric and magnetic fields, gravitation, relativity, atomic and nuclear physics, solid state physics and many other topics. In general, physics strives for a mathematical description of the laws of nature at the most fundamental level and is therefore the most mathematical of the basic sciences.
Regional Initiatives in Dental Education
RIDE is an outgrowth of the University of Washington School of Dentistry's (UWSOD) mission to take a leadership role in improving the health and well-being of the people of the community and the region through outreach programs that are especially attentive to minority and underserved populations.
Veterans Electrical Engineering Initiative
Veterans will progress through the full electrical engineering curriculum, focused initially on foundational knowledge in calculus and physics, leading to the heart of the degree program to be completed by summer 2015.

Addiction Studies
The Addiction Studies program is a multidisciplinary program that provides university-level education valuable for students in all disciplines, particularly those students interested in alcohol/drug prevention and treatment and careers in health, business and industry, criminal justice, and human services.
Africana Education
Africana studies courses provide understanding and appreciation of the universal African diaspora today and historically from an Afrocentric world view. They also give students the opportunity to evaluate the influence of African culture on the entire human civilization.
Aging Studies
The Aging Studies Program is designed to prepare students for careers in the development, management and provision of services to older persons.
American Indian Studies
Eastern's American Indian Studies Program is designed to explore the past, present and future of American Indians through studies in their history, literature, research and culture.
Anthropology
Anthropology offers students the opportunity to broaden their exposure to peoples and cultures of the world, both now and in the past. The four-field approach considers the biological, cultural, prehistoric and linguistic aspects of the human condition. Home of Archaeological and Historical Services of EWU. Careers include: archaeology forensics, research, teaching and working with international agencies and companies.
Chicano Education
The Chicano Education Program offers a Chicano studies academic minor designed to provide all students, regardless of ethnicity, a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the Chicano/Latino community and relevant issues.
Children's Studies
Eastern Washington University's major in Children's Studies was the first in the nation. The curriculum of this interdisciplinary program focuses on the developmental, learning and social issues of children from birth to 18. The Children's Studies major incorporates coursework from departments across the University, including Education, Sociology, and Counseling, Educational and Developmental Psychology.
Communication Studies
The Bachelor of Arts in communication studies offers you two options: communication studies and communication studies in public relations. Both options provide you with a strong foundation in communication and the social sciences.
Counseling, Educational & Developmental Psychology
Counseling, Educational and Developmental Psychology offers undergraduate programs emphasizing preparation for careers in human services and education, where knowledge of development and exceptionality are central, as well as preparation for graduate study.
Criminal Justice
Criminal justice is an interdisciplinary program that provides students with a thorough understanding of the criminal justice system and its role in society. The program is used for placement in: law enforcement, corrections, the juvenile justice system and criminal justice investigation.

Geography
The geography program is designed for students seeking professional careers in environmental fields, geographic information systems (GIS), education and for those going on to graduate study. Typical career fields include computer cartography and GIS, urban and regional planning, community development, environmental analysis, park ranger, intelligence analyst, hydrologist, climatologist, natural resources specialist, demographer, historic preservation specialist and numerous other environmental areas.
Government
The study of government brings a student face-to-face with the issues and concerns of living in a complex world where some measure of public action is necessary to make life livable. Graduates enter the fields of law, public administration, teaching, political staff work and public relations staff work. Home of the pre-law program, international affairs program and the Mock Trial team.
History
George Santayana wrote, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” History provides knowledge for unlocking all other realms of human development. The study of history provides a solid foundation not only for history and social studies education majors, but for careers in law, business, government, international relations, journalism, library services and museums, to name but a few. As peoples of different ethnicities interact with each other more frequently in the 21st century, understanding each other’s past paves the way for harmonious and beneficial cross-cultural relations.
Interdisciplinary Studies
The interdisciplinary studies program offers three unique degree options for students seeking programs which provide a broad academic background that is applicable to an array of career opportunities. The programs are: liberal arts, prior learning (adult learner) and interdisciplinary.
International Affairs
The International Affairs Program is an interdisciplinary program of the Department of Government for students who aspire to work as diplomats, foreign affairs researchers, military specialists, corporate managers, international development professionals, journalists, lawyers, international bankers, teachers and entrepreneurs, and is home to the Model United Nations.
Psychology
Psychology is the science of human behavior, mental processes and experience. Psychology is a diverse discipline, grounded in science, but with nearly boundless applications in everyday life. Some psychologists do basic research, developing theories and testing them through carefully honed research methods involving observation, experimentation and analysis. Other psychologists apply the discipline’s scientific knowledge to help people, organizations and communities function more successfully.
Social Studies
Social studies education is a certificate program leading to a bachelor of arts in education. Working with the Department of Education, students will receive a state-endorsed major in the area of social studies. The curriculum is made up of five core areas: history, geography, anthropology/sociology, government and economics. Social studies teachers enable their students to understand the social nature of the world and the interrelated institutions in society through a strong historical approach.
Social Work
The Social Work Program is committed to the ongoing development of social work education that instills a core commitment to work toward social and economic justice in a diverse society with the result being the empowerment of individuals, groups and communities in their efforts to enhance opportunities for human well-being.
Sociology
Students in sociology are provided with highly marketable information-gathering and problem-solving skills in social research and analysis. Sociology graduates go on to careers in administration, counseling, criminal justice, human resources, teaching, social services and social research.
Women's and Gender Studies
Women's and Gender Studies enables students to analyze and explore women’s roles, contributions, history, and experiences and to critically examine gender structures in societies and cultures in the U.S. and the world.
