This form will be used to receive nominations within the College of Professional Programs for the Frances B. Huston Medallion Award for graduating seniors, through Academic Affairs.

    Background:

    The Frances B. Huston Medallion Award was established in 1998 as a tribute to Professor Emeritus of English Frances B. Huston. Professor Huston taught at Eastern Washington University from 1955 to 1976 and exemplified a lifelong commitment to higher learning. She was loved and respected for her dedication to individual student development. This medallion award program recognizes outstanding graduates and it honors Professor Huston who was both a leader and friend of higher education.

    Student Requirements:

  • Award nominee is a graduating senior.
  • Award nominee will have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement with a minimum 3.75 GPA (in their previous four quarters), see the HUS_ GPA column on the spreadsheet provided by email
  • *Award nominee qualifies in one or more of the following areas: 1) Leadership, 2) Service to the university, or 3) Service to the community*.

The College will likely have an allocation of 7 medallion awards this year, therefore faculty and staff can nominate students who are listed on the spreadsheet provided. If you feel a student meets the criteria specified but is not on the list, please contact us at cpp@ewu.edu.

    General Award Information:

  • Any faculty or staff member in the college can submit a nomination
  • Chair or supervisor approval is NOT required
  • The Letter of nomination from the faculty or staff member should include a clear indication of Leadership activities, Service to the university, or Service to community. Please provide specific examples. Students recognized will have gone above and beyond the requirements listed, and demonstrated leadership and service beyond/outside of internship/practicum.
  • The length of the written nomination is limited to two pages (file upload); with a minimum of 500 words to sufficiently provide evidence in support of your nomination
  • Nominations are due to the Dean’s office, using this form to submit, by Friday April 11th, 2025
