Frances B. Huston Awards

The Frances B. Huston Medallion Recognizes Graduating Seniors for Excellence in Academics, Leadership, and Service.

Frances Breitweg Huston was born in Vancouver, Washington, Aug. 13, 1912. She grew up in Portland, Oregon, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Reed College in 1931, and her Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Washington (1947/1948). In 1955, Graham Dressler, PhD, professor of English at what was then Eastern Washington College of Education, offered Huston a position teaching English and English as a second language. Huston joined EWU’s faculty in the fall of 1955 and taught until her retirement in academic year 1975/1976.

Recipients of the Frances B. Huston Medallion Award have established themselves as exceptionally capable individuals in both academic and extracurricular activities. The faculty and administration of Eastern Washington University acknowledge their great pride in the accomplishments of these students during their college experience and expect even greater accomplishments in the years that lie ahead.
