The federally funded TRIO Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program at EWU prepares eligible undergraduate students for graduate education and doctoral study. The program introduces students to academic research and provides mentorship, resources and strategies to help them succeed in graduate school and pursue PhD programs. Operating as a cohort, McNair Scholars develop skills and experience for future careers as professors and professional researchers.
Sushma Krishnamurthy, PhD

Dr. Sushma Krishnamurthy joined Eastern Washington University in July 2026 as the inaugural dean of Graduate Studies and Research, bringing extensive experience in graduate education, research and academic leadership.
Before coming to EWU, Krishnamurthy served as dean of the Graduate School at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where she championed academic quality, supported graduate enrollment growth and expanded opportunities for graduate students.
A biological scientist and longtime advocate for graduate education, Krishnamurthy brings a collaborative approach to strengthening EWU’s graduate programs, supporting research and grant activity, and connecting students and faculty with opportunities to turn scholarship into meaningful impact.
