In celebration of our college graduates, we reached out to our seniors for a little highlight and feedback from their time at Eastern. Congratulations on getting your degree! And welcome to the Eagle Alumni Family! Go Eags!

Jorge Rodriguez

What is your major and minor/certificate and what made you choose that major/minor?

I am graduating with my English Studies major. I was originally a part of the English Secondary Education program but switched at the start of the year to my current major. I love reading, writing, and helping others out, so it was a no-brainer to join the English Secondary Education program while I attended Eastern. As time went on, my schedule changed to my current English Studies degree and a focus on grad school to obtain my teaching certificate.

What was your favorite thing about your program?

My favorite part of the program was the classroom atmosphere. While each teacher was different, they all managed discussions in a way that allowed for meaningful and deep conversations over our topics. I not only felt like I was learning the material but learning more about my classmates and their views on the world.

What is your plan after graduation?

After graduation, I am joining the Master in Teaching program here at Eastern to become certified as a teacher. I will be moving back home, taking classes online, and hopefully working in a district near me.

Which faculty member in your program did you connect with the most and why?

I connected a lot with many teachers, but I think Dr. Greene was one of my closest teachers. Through Dr. Greene’s classes, I could test what I wanted to discuss and show my skills. It was through her classes that I recognized my skills as a student and future teacher. She has even gone as far as writing me a letter of recommendation unprompted for the English graduate program.

What was your go to meal while studying?

My go-to meal while studying was Subway. I would order The Boss or the Spicy Italian. I am a big fan of pepperoni and other deli meats.
