Anna Dvorak was an assistant professor of geography and geographic information systems at Eastern Washington University. She died in a climbing accident in Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountains in 2015.

A memorial fund in Anna’s honor was organized by the Department of Geography, Anthropology and Planning at EWU. When the fund is endowed at $25,000, scholarships will be awarded to help Eastern students travel. The scholarships are intended for students who feel passionately, as Anna did, about exploring the world for social and environmental justice.

“She was so excited to spread her geographic knowledge and experiences through teaching,” says Stacy Warren, professor of geography at Eastern. “We want to keep that spirit alive with this scholarship.”

The Anna Dvorak Memorial Fund needs to reach the endowment by October to start awarding deserving students who wish to continue Anna’s legacy. A gift from you on Giving Joy Day can help make that happen!
