EWU Provides Temporary Living Quarters for Fire Victims
Space offered to employees, students and others.
Eastern Washington University has opened its residence halls to those affected by the Spokane Complex Wildfires, providing temporary shelter during this time of crisis.
The university is offering to house students, faculty and staff—and their immediate families, dogs and cats—who have been displaced by fires. Employees who need housing can email housing@ewu.edu or call 509-359-2451. Students should go through Student Accommodations and Support Services. Affected EWU students, faculty and staff won’t be charged to stay on campus temporarily.
“We are just trying to do a small part to support the recovery efforts,” says Josh Ashcroft, associate vice president of campus life. “The ability of the housing and custodial team to develop a plan quickly is what makes EWU and our Spokane community so special.”
Some families connected to Fairchild Air Force Base who have been displaced by fires are expected to begin moving into Anderson Hall. In all, about 80 people could move temporarily into Anderson over the next five days.
EWU’s temporary housing will be available until Aug. 16, at which time staff will need to begin preparing the facilities for residents in advance of the fall quarter 2026.
