Winter Break Information & Travel FAQs

Winter Break is near! Before your student takes off, we want to answer all of your questions and ensure they travel back and forth from campus safely.

November 30, 2023

Residence Hall Questions:

  • Students not staying in the residence halls during winter quarter 2024 must move out before noon on Dec. 8, 2023. Students are allowed back in the halls on January 7, 2024 at 9 AM.
  • Residents who need to remain in the residence halls during the break between quarters (Dec. 8 – Jan. 7) must make arrangements in advance (see below). The cost is $400 per person for one or more days in the halls during this break. This pricing does not include meals. Those staying on campus will be required to move rooms for the duration of the winter break.

Getting to the Spokane Airport:

  • The STA bus service is a great (and free to your student with their Eagle Card!) service that goes to the airport. Simply have your student catch the 6 or 66 on campus, transfer at the West Plains Transit Center (Medical Lake Park N Ride), catch the 63, and arrive at the Spokane Airport in about 40 minutes.
  • Local airport shuttles available: There are also some local shuttles that can be reserved in advance. Prices may vary.

Driving Home: Is your student leaving campus via car? Make sure to check out the WSDOT website before they leave, to check the weather- especially in the Pass!

Spokane Amtrak: The Spokane station offers a variety of destinations.

Having trouble finding a ride to the Amtrak station? Have your Eagle take the 6, 66, or 661 (which leaves from EWU Eagle Station) to Riverside Bernard (Plaza Bay 7), transfer to 90 at the Valley Transit Center, and arrive at Sprague and Brown.

Carpooling? Be sure your student knows who their ride is, if it is a reliable vehicle and that you know the names and contacts of those they are traveling with.

If you or your student isn’t yet, make sure they sign up for EWU alerts

We hope you have a wonderful Winter Break with your Eagle! Enjoy your time and we look forward to seeing students back on campus for the Winter Quarter on January 8, 2024!
