Guide New students in Completing Orientation

Student Orientation Video

Show the new student orientation video in class. The first step in getting oriented to EWU in the High School as a student is to watch this video. It will take approximately 12 minutes. This is required.

Canvas Orientation

If students or parent(s)/guardian(s) would like more information, they’re welcome to review the Canvas orientation course for new students. Note: This is an open-enrollment Canvas course. You do not need EWU credentials to access the course. Please avoid using Microsoft Edge as the default browser when opening Canvas. This is optional if students have watched the orientation video.

Assist Students in Completing Application

How to Start the Application

All students must complete the application. If possible, have your whole class do this at the same time.

  • Please advise your students to use a personal email, not their high school email address to apply—the high school firewall will block emails from us.
  • Students must create an account on the application page.
  • Please ensure correct spelling of emails and check spam or junk folder.

Start the Application

Completing the Application

  • For further assistance:
  • Once their account has been created, students must activate the application through email.
  • Students must use the link in the email to open the EWU in the High School portal and complete the application.
  • Once the application is complete students will review the FERPA policy and select classes available at their high school.

EWU Resources & Services

  • After the application is completed, students will receive their EWU ID number and EWU account User Name within three to five days to the email provided in the application. EWU credentials give them access to university resources and their academic transcripts.
  • EWU services require account activation.

Note: If students enter information incorrectly or if they don’t receive the email within one week, please contact our office at cihs@ewu.edu or 509.359.6187.

STOP. All new students must complete the online application before you can proceed to Step 3.

3

Verify Student Registration Requests

Within the EWU in the High School online portal instructors can view students that have completed the application and class request steps when selecting the Class Sections tile. Near the end of the application and registration window all instructors will be asked to verify their rosters and by confirming they are accurate or inaccurate.

Verify Roster

*All student applicants must be included on the roster in order for them to receive credit. Credit will not be given if the student is missing from the roster nor will credit be given retroactively after the deadline for rosters.

Note: Please refer to the email “Fall 2026 Registration” for important updates and links regarding student enrollment.

4

Submit All Documents (Private Schools Only)

Send all self-pay contracts (if applicable*) in one email to cihs@ewu.edu. Our office will start the registration process for your course only after we have received all the necessary documents.

Once received and processed, a confirmation email will be sent prompting you to verify roster accuracy of student names and that all students are included on your roster.

5

Verify Registration

Log into your account portal each month to verify your course registration. If a student is missing or you have too many students, let us know as soon as possible so we can get it fixed!

NOTE: If this list is not verified or a student is not included on the list, the student will not be retroactively provided credit for the course.

Only continue to Step 6 if you need to add or drop a student from your course.

6

How to Add or Drop Students

Adding Students:

Drops & Withdrawals

  1. Who can request a drop or withdrawal?  All drop and withdrawal requests are processed through the EWU in the High School online portal by students, instructors, or high school counselors.
  2. Important! All drop and withdrawal requests must be approved by the course instructor.
