Recap: Days 1-14 of the 2017 Regular Legislative Session

January 23, 2017
Showalter Hall at sunset

The first two weeks have been a flurry of activity as we met new members, testified before the house and senate committees on the Governor’s proposed budget, and responded to bills.

In this 2017 legislative session, lawmakers need to accomplish:

  • Approving a new operating, capital, and transportation budget
  • Meeting the state’s K-12 McCleary obligations (of which there is no agreement yet on the cost or scope of those obligations)
  • Responding to a number of lawsuits on mental health, etc

In addition, we have spent time getting to know many of our Eagle Alums working in Olympia.

Over the next couple of weeks we have several campus visitors that will be in town including President Cullinan, our trustees, teacher preparation faculty and leadership, and STEM leadership.

Stay tuned for updates on their visits!
