EWU Student Honored

Published: April 19, 2017

CHENEY, Washington - Eastern Washington University senior George Gay has been honored with the Washington Campus Compact President's Leadership Award, given to outstanding student leaders from various campuses around the area.

Gay, of Tacoma, received his award at the Inland Northwest Service-Learning Partnership (INSLP) awards presentation in Spokane on April 12. During his four years at Eastern, the Exercise Science major has been actively involved in EWU's Office of Community Engagement (OCE) and the Cheney community.

Among his volunteer contributions Gay is an Eagle Volunteer Leader, coordinator of hunger and homelessness awareness events for OCE's Mobile Food Bank, and he participates at major OCE events like MLK Day, EagleUP and HarvestFest. Gay is also a member of the Exercise Science Club and Black Student Union.

His peers say each day Gay works to give back to others and he sets a great example through his compassion for others. For instance, he is also working on creating a food pantry at EWU for those in need.

George Gay will be graduating from Eastern this June.
