Nursing at EWU

Caring for People Across the Continuum of Life

Eastern Washington University is launching a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in fall 2023. The program, resulting from extensive planning and collaboration with healthcare industry partners, is designed to prepare nurses to meet the diverse healthcare needs region-wide.

The Nursing BSN degree provides transformative educational experiences to create a culture of excellence in the art and science of nursing.  The program will prepare students for a rewarding career in nursing at a time when there is a critical shortage of nurses throughout the state and nation. Our graduates will be lifelong learners prepared to practice with integrity and compassion as they care for people across their lifespans in various healthcare settings.

Fall 2023 Application cycle is now closed.

An inaugural cohort of 40 students will be accepted for the fall semester of 2023. The application for fall 2023 closed on February 20th at 8:59 p.m.  The Spring 2024 application will be available in early Summer 2023. Another 40 students will be admitted for spring 2024.

What Makes Eastern’s Program Unique?

Personalized Instruction: Professors with extensive nursing expertise will lead small-size classes enhanced by clinical placements and simulation technology to ready students for a wide range of real-world scenarios.

Collaboration: Eastern’s nursing program is housed inside the SIERR Building in the University District, and is part of the growing “Health Peninsula” in Spokane. This unique location creates the optimal hub for research, development and advancement of health sciences — and builds upon partnerships with nearby hospitals, clinics and health education centers to create a comprehensive learning experience.

Holistic Admission: Healthcare providers overwhelmingly expressed a need for more diversity in nursing to better serve patients from a variety of backgrounds. EWU’s Nursing Program looks beyond standardized test scores and GPA to assess applicants based on the whole of their education, community service and personal experience.

Emphasis on Emerging Needs: Eastern’s program emphasizes care for an aging population and and nursing services for residents of rural communities.
