Fieldwork Education

Skill Building Through Clinical Experience

Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Placements

The academic program includes two years of didactic education and six months of Level II Fieldwork (full-time internships in occupational therapy practice). Fieldwork Level I and Level II are an integral part of the educational program.

  • Fieldwork Level I is embedded within three semesters of coursework in mental health, pediatrics and adult physical disabilities.
  • Fieldwork Level II provides the learner with the opportunity to apply and integrate didactic knowledge, skills, and behaviors to occupational therapy practice in traditional and emerging settings. Students will complete a minimum of 24 weeks of Fieldwork in the summer and fall semesters following the completion of all didactic coursework.

Students are required to have an adult physical disability setting for one Level II Fieldwork and may choose a more specialized area for their second Level II Fieldwork. In support of the program’s mission, there is also a focus on placement in rural communities.

Students must complete Level II Fieldwork within 24 months following completion of the didactic portion of the program. A felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
