Applying to an EWU Graduate Program

Graduate Assistantships and Financial Aid

EWU offers graduate assistantships to help students fund their graduate study. At EWU, these assistantships are called Graduate Service Appointments (or, more often, "GSAs").

Many EWU graduate students take advantage of other types of financial aid as well: scholarships, federal student aid, veterans' benefits, and more.

Graduate Faculty

Eastern's more than 500 graduate faculty members are active scholars, dedicated teachers and effective mentors. They engage their students in a wide range of supervised and independent research and in the professional preparation required for specialized practice in their chosen fields. The University is awarded millions of dollars each year in competitive grants from external funding agencies for research, training and service. Eastern's graduate students have the exceptional benefit of well-funded research facilities and the student-centered faculty of a comprehensive university.

About EWU

More than 125 years ago, EWU began as a small teacher-education school called the Benjamin P. Cheney Academy. As the demand for higher education has expanded, EWU has broadened its degree offerings to include numerous graduate-level programs in various professional and academic disciplines, including business, education, health care, humanities, the social sciences, and STEM fields. In total, we offer 49 graduate programs: 38 master's programs, 10 graduate-level certificates, and one applied doctorate degree.

EWU is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). Additionally, many of our graduate programs have their own program-level accreditations.

EWU in the Inland Northwest

Eastern Washington University has campuses in Cheney and Spokane. Our presence can be felt throughout the Northwest. Eastern's mission fosters community involvement and collaboration among faculty, staff, and students. EWU is an important part of our region's economy and way of life.

Eastern's beautiful 300-acre campus in Cheney sits just minutes from more than 20 lakes, rolling mountains, and the Turnbull National Wildlife refuge. Students can enjoy the vast recreational opportunities the Northwest has to offer: fishing, hiking, biking, boating, wildlife viewing, skiing, and more. Spokane, a 20-minute drive from the Cheney campus, offers abundant internship opportunities, civic involvement, and cultural activities of a major metropolitan area.
