Anna Dvorak, an assistant professor of geography at EWU, died in a climbing accident in Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountains in 2015. A memorial fund in Anna’s honor will help students continue her love of geography.

Once fully funded, these scholarships will benefit deserving EWU students year after year.

The shift to virtual learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic left many EWU students without the technology they require to continue their education. The EWU Foundation and the university’s Student Care Team recognized the need and quickly utilized the Student Emergency Fund to purchase Chromebooks for such students.

As students prepare to learn in virtual settings for the spring quarter, many are also managing the financial consequences that come with new technology needs, housing changes, food insecurity and unemployment.

The very first “Experts @ EWU” segment on Spokane Talks featured Scott Finnie, professor and chair of Africana Studies at Eastern. Finnie discusses the importance of the program in bringing awareness and diversity to campus, what students are most concerned about today, and he discusses the annual 1,000 Mile Civil Rights Tour.
