At the beginning of the year you will complete a roommate agreement. It is important to have open and honest communication with your roommate. Roommates who complete this form together and agree to expectations are more likely to have a great experience.

Meet your neighbors – Introduce yourself, say hello, chat on your way to or from class. Getting to know your neighbors will make it easier to approach them if issues arise later. Talk to the person – Before you talk to the person (roommate/neighbor) make sure you take time to cool off and think about the situation. Ask yourself if this is a one time issue or something that is ongoing. If it is on-going think about the outcome you want before you approach them. Do you want them to turn the music down at 10:00 pm? This will help you discuss an issue in a positive way. Assume Positive Intention – Keep in mind that the other person likely doesn’t know you have a problem with what they are doing. While it may be an annoyance, they are likely unaware of how their behavior is impacting you.

There is limited space to move people around in University Apartments. If you have tried the tips for conflict resolution and just can’t make it work, you may submit a room change request after the first two weeks of the quarter starts.

Students can live in the apartments during all breaks. Summer options are available for students who plan to live in thier unit for the upcoming school year. Info for summer options is sent to students via EWU email during the spring quarter.
