Sororities & Fraternities

EWU is home to six fraternities and eight sororities, making us the only regional public university in Washington with a thriving Greek community.

Greek life goes way beyond social events at EWU. Sorority and fraternity members are leaders on campus, dedicated to community service, and committed to academic excellence.

Joining a chapter means forming lifelong friendships, building leadership skills, and making a lasting impact.

EWU Traditions

Pass Through the Pillars

Pass Through the Pillars

Each fall, new students participate in a ceremonial stroll through the Herculean Pillars. It's a spirited welcome filled with cheers, high-fives, and Eagle pride.

The Firing of the Cannon

The Firing of the Cannon

After every Eagles touchdown, the ROTC fires a 75mm Howitzer beside Roos Field, followed by the playing of the fight song—so you might leave with a hoarse voice and ringing ears.

The Ringing of the Schoolhouse Bell

The Ringing of the Schoolhouse Bell

At the heart of the campus stands a one-room schoolhouse from 1905. On the first day of class, EWU's president rings the bell to mark the beginning of the academic year.

Sledding on Dining Service Trays

Sledding on Dining Service Trays

While this activity is officially frowned upon, rumor has it that the hill behind JFK Library makes for legendary tray sledding runs. Not that we’re making a recommendation. Just, you know, we’ve heard such things.

Kissing Rock

Kissing Rock

Back when students lived in single-gender housing, “Kissing Rock” was the campus meeting spot. It still exists today, although it is now hidden behind shrubs (possibly on purpose).

A Beloved Homecoming Tradition

Feel the energy of EWU Homecoming with the unforgettable Pep Rally, Bonfire, and Bed Races—an annual tradition that brings friends together and celebrates what it means to be an Eagle.
