MSW Admission Criteria

Applicants must have the following:

  1.  Successful completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. A cumulative grade-point average 3.0 in the last 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credit.
    a.  Upon recommendation of the Graduate Program Director, the Dean of Graduate Studies may admit a limited number of students, with a GPA under 3.0, based upon considerations which includes performance in relevant graduate courses and faculty evaluations.
  3. Completion of 3 credit hours of an introductory statistics course covering descriptive and inferential statistics and basic hypothesis testing with a minimum grade 2.5 (B-).
    a.  If you have not completed such a course, you must submit a plan in your admission material describing how you will complete this requirement prior to registering for the first quarter classes in the MSW program.
  4. The GRE is not required.
  5. Previous Life or Work Experience cannot be substituted for course credit.

MSW Advanced Standing Option

Applicants must have the following:

  1. Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in social work (BASW/BSW) from an accredited college or university.
    a.  A cumulative grade-point average 3.5 in undergraduate social work courses and a cumulative grade-point average 3.0 in the last 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credit.
    b.  The degree must have been awarded no longer than seven years prior to the application date.
    c.  The degree must be from a CSWE accredited undergraduate social work program.
  2. Completion of 3 credit hours of an introductory statistics course covering descriptive and inferential statistics and basic hypothesis testing with a minimum grade 2.5 (B-).
  3. The GRE is not required.

No exceptions are made to policies regarding Advanced Standing.

Applications for each academic year are available the prior September. The School reviews applications when all materials are received. Approved applicants are then pooled and final decisions are made by the MSW Admissions Committee. Please go to ewu.edu/msw for more information.
