Careers in Music

Our curriculum prepares students for a wide variety of occupational possibilities.

There are many jobs in media production that involve music: recording, editing, mastering, and sound design.  Our Bachelor of Arts in Music Technology will prepare you to create your own business or find a job at a large company like Apple or Amazon. Or work with businesses related to recording studios, film, and media, or touring bands and ensembles.

Our Bachelor of Music Performance degrees prepare you for careers as solo and collaborative artists, applied studio teachers and coaches, performers in professional orchestras and jazz ensembles, fellowship positions in summer festivals, or recording studios in commercial music. Many of our students have also been admitted to distinguished graduate programs.

Many EWU graduates in music composition have worked in freelance environments, especially in large cities like Seattle and Los Angeles. Others have continued their education with acceptance to graduate programs such as the University of Washington, NYU, Temple University, Cal State Northridge, University of Idaho, and the University of Michigan.

Our nationally accredited Bachelor of Music Education (BME) Program and talented faculty generate well-prepared graduates in music education. We partner with the EWU School of Education and area schools to create opportunities and experiences that lead to certification and endorsements. Our placement in K-12 schools is 100%.

Music Therapy is a career field that can be accessed more broadly through our Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music degree.  The BA degree offers many elective choices and opportunities to take classes related to health care.  Some of our students have started career paths by seeking graduate degrees.
