Freshman Admission Requirements
There are two ways you will get admitted to EWU as a freshman.
- Have a 3.3 cumulative GPA (or higher) and complete the CADR. (See the next section for a definition of the CADR.) If this is you, you'll be automatically admitted. (You still have to submit your official ACT or SAT scores!) This is why working hard in high school pays off.
- Pass through the review process. We'll look at your short essay essay responses, all of your grades from high school and college, the difficulty of the classes you took, your senior year course schedule and your ACT or SAT scores.
To be admissible, students must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA in high school and any applicable college work.
College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADRs)
To ensure proper academic preparation for college, students must complete the following CADRs.
- 4 credits of English
- 3 credits of social sciences
- 2 credits of laboratory science (1 credit algebra based)
- 2 credits of world language (ASL accepted)
- 1 credit of fine art (may be replaced by 1 credit from any other category)
- 3 credits of mathematics including algebra I, algebra II, and geometry*
*Be sure to take a math-based quantitative course in your senior year. Acceptable courses include algebra I, algebra II, geometry, pre-calculus and above, math analysis, statistics, applied math, appropriate career and technical courses, or an algebra-based science course such as chemistry or physics. If you take and pass pre-calculus, math analysis or calculus prior to your senior year, you're exempt from this requirement.
ACT or SAT Test Scores
You can take either the ACT (without writing) or SAT test. We use these scores in the scholarship selection process and as a placement tool for Eastern English courses.
We also use test scores to better understand your academic capabilities and potential for success as a scholar, especially if your GPA is low or if you didn't complete the CADRs.
