We all have memories of a favorite teacher; someone who took the time to help us succeed, who was willing to answer our every question, who challenged us to see things from a different perspective, who stayed after school to read every last essay, or who believed in us even when we did not believe in ourselves. We think these amazing teachers should be recognized for all their extraordinary contributions, and for more than 30 years, the EWU School of Education and our fantastic partners, KHQ-Q6 and STCU, have been doing just that.

Both of these partners are dedicated to the betterment of our community and consistently emphasize the importance of education and educators, and we are so grateful for their sponsorship! But we also need YOU!

We need students to take that extra step to recognize and nominate the outstanding teachers in our community. You can nominate your special teacher by snail mail or through our online submission page – a faculty committee reviews every letter we receive and selects each month’s winner.

About the Teacher of the Month Program

The Teacher of the Month Program is a collaboration between Eastern Washington University’s School of Education, KHQ-Q6 News, and Spokane Teachers Credit Union, and we’ve been recognizing local teachers for their excellence for more than 30 years!

Each month, all submissions are reviewed carefully by a faculty committee. One extraordinary teacher is selected, and representatives of the School of Education, KHQ, and STCU will visit the winning teacher’s school to celebrate.

Nominations are accepted from a student, a group of students, or parents of students with special needs, though we do prefer nominations come directly from students whenever possible.
