PRESERVICE TEACHERS

TEACH Grant

Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congress created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program that provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. In exchange for receiving a TEACH Grant, you must agree to serve as a full-time teacher in a high-need field in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves low-income students (see the link for more information on high-need fields and schools serving low-income students).

Stafford Loan Forgiveness Program for Teachers

The Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program is intended to encourage individuals to enter and continue in the teaching profession. Under this program, individuals who teach full time for five consecutive, complete academic years in certain elementary and secondary schools that serve low-income families and meet other qualifications may be eligible for forgiveness of up to a combined total of $17,500 in principal and interest on their FFEL and/or Direct Loan program loans.

A new scholarship in the Mathematics Department at EWU for secondary preservice teachers who are juniors or seniors

NCTM Prospective secondary teacher coursework scholarships

Scholarships, up to $10,000 each, are awarded to full-time college or university sophomores who are preparing to be certified teachers of secondary school (grades 7-12) mathematics. (Supported by the Texas Instruments Demana-Waits Fund)

INSERVICE TEACHERS

Educator Retooling Program

Funding from the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) in Washington state for current teachers to add a mathematics endorsement.

Teacher Professional Development Grants for Grades 9-12 Teachers

The purpose of this grant is to support professional development to improve the competence in the teaching of mathematics of one or more classroom teachers*. For 2011-2012, grants of a maximum of $3,000 will be awarded to person(s) currently teaching at the grades 9-12 level. The proposal must delineate the teacher(s)' professional development plan and address how the proposed project will improve the teacher(s)' competence and impact students' learning.

Texas Instruments

Provides small grants for TI calculators.

Toshiba Math and Science Grants

The mission of Toshiba America Foundation is to promote quality science and mathematics education in U.S. schools. Grants are made for programs and activities that improve teaching and learning in science and mathematics, grades K-12. The Foundation focuses its grant making on inquiry-based projects designed by individual teachers, and small teams of teachers, for use in their own classrooms.

Target Field Trip Grants

Target will award 5,000 Field Trip Grants of up to $800 each during the 2008-2009 school year. That adds up to 5,000 more opportunities for students to explore more of the world outside the classroom. Visit the zoo. Go backstage at a local theater. Tour a museum. Adopt-A-Classroom Educational Grants

Register at the Adopt-a-Classroom web site to be adopted by an individual, a business, or a foundation. Once adopted, teachers receive $500 worth of credit to purchase items that enrich the learning environment.

AIAA Foundation Classroom Grant

Teacher must be a current AIAA Educator Associate member or an AIAA Professional member actively engaged as a K-12 classroom educator prior to receiving the grant.

Grades 7-12 Classroom Research Grants

The purpose of this grant is to support and encourage classroom-based research in precollege mathematics education in collaboration with college or university mathematics educators. For 2011-2012, grants with a maximum of $6,000 each will be awarded to classroom teachers currently teaching mathematics at the grades 7-12 level. The research must be a significant collaborative effort involving a college or university mathematics educator (a mathematics education researcher or a teacher of mathematics learning, teaching, or curriculum) and one or more grades 7-12 classroom teachers

Kids in Need Grant

The purpose of the grants is to provide funds for classroom teachers who have innovative, meritorious ideas. Your project may qualify for funding if it makes creative use of common teaching aids, approaches the curriculum from an imaginative angle, or ties nontraditional concepts together for the purpose of illustrating commonalities.

NEA Learning and Leadership grants

Our Learning & Leadership grants support public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education for one of the following two purposes:

• Grants to individuals fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes or action research; or
• Grants to groups fund collegial study, including study groups, action research, lesson study, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff new to an assignment.
