Graduate Admissions Requirement

The application process in detail for the Master of Science degree.graduate school application; master of science application

Students who would like to be considered for admission into the Communication Disorders graduate program must meet the admissions requirements of both the Office of Graduate Studies and the program.

Prospective applicants: Last year (2013) we received approximately 254 applications to our graduate program. Forty-one (41) were offered admission and 22 enrolled in classes for Fall Semester 2013. The average grade point average (GPA) for these acceptances was 3.85. The average analytical writing score for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) was 4.0; the average quantitative was 151 and verbal 155.

Admissions Requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies

  • Submit a completed Application for Admission, plus $32 program fee, along with the $50 graduate application fee.
  • Submit one official copy of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • Submit official score reports from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

A baccalaureate degree from an appropriately-accredited college or university is required. Eligibility for graduate admission is determined by evidence of scholarly ability, as indicated by a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 in the last 90 quarter-hour or 60 semester-hour credits.

Admissions Requirements of the Communication Disorders Program
As part of the admissions process, applicants will participate in an interview. Details will be shared as they become available.

  • Submit a Letter of Intent.
  • Submit an application fee of $32.
  • Submit the completed Recommendation Form from three (3) individuals who can attest to your academic capabilities.
  • Students entering the program must have completed an undergraduate major in communication disorders. Students with an undergraduate major in any other field must complete a post baccalaureate program of required communication disorders courses prior to admission to the graduate program.

The Letter of Intent (1 1/2 pages doubled spaced) should focus on your professional goals, the reason(s) why you want to attend graduate school in general, and the reason(s) why you wish to attend the Communication Disorders graduate program at Eastern Washington University, specifically. The Recommendation Forms should be completed by faculty members from the institution that granted the baccalaureate or post baccalaureate program in Communication Disorders. Recommendation Forms submitted by employment or personal references are not typically considered, unless they are from someone in a related health profession. In addition to the $50 application fee to the Office of Graduate Studies, a $32 application fee must be paid to the Communication Disorders department.

Although the Office of Graduate Studies does not specify a cut-off score for the GRE, the Communication Disorders graduate program strongly recommends that the student earn a combined score of approximately 300 points. In addition, the student should earn a score of 4 or higher on the Analytical Writing section of the GRE.
