Thank you for visiting the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences website.

Launched in 2005, and building on three decades of prior activity in computer science and engineering, the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences (SCES) is a major pipeline of technology advancement and innovation for the region. Through its history, EWU and SCES have produced over 4,000 graduates  in computer and engineering related areas and helped over 20 spin-off companies emerge, some now with several hundreds of employees.  Project partners for SCES include Avista, Itron, Triumph, Goodyear, Innovate Washington, NextIT, District 81, Intrinium, TriGeo, Greater Spokane Incorporated and many more.  As the host of annual the FIRST Robotics, FIRST Lego, Human Powered Paper Vehicle and other competitions for the youth, SCES actively promotes STEM education and outreach in the region.

It was in recognition of these efforts that the SCES was selected as recipient of the 2011 Catalyst Award for "Organization of the Year." The Catalyst Awards recognize contributions by individuals, organizations and businesses that demonstrate the utilization of technology and innovation to bring economic development to the region. The Catalyst Awards were presented by Greater Spokane Incorporated, Technet and the Spokane University District on Oct. 5, 2011.

SCES is housed in the Computing and Engineering Building, a state-of-the-art facility completed in 2005, which features more than 20 laboratories including a Game Development and Computer Animation Studio, as well as laboratories for robotics, cybersecurity, materials science, computer aided manufacturing and many others.  Classrooms and laboratories in the facility are designed for optimum educational experiences and are furnished with cutting-edge equipment that aids teaching theory and practice, skill and creativity. Furthermore, students majoring in the computing and engineering sciences will have opportunities to gain real-world and hands-on experience through internship opportunities working off-site in one of the many businesses that the school is partnering with.

Graduates of the programs in the School of Computing & Engineering Sciences will be graduating from timely, high-quality education programs with the practical skills needed in today's fast-changing technological fields. They will be equipped to provide creative solutions, pursue continued learning, and participate in the development of the technologies of tomorrow.
